SECTION 4: FIRST AID MEASURES
FIRST AID MEASURES:
Consult the National Poisons Centre on 131126 or a doctor immediately
in every case of
suspected chemical poisoning. Never give fluids or induce vomiting if
a patient is unconscious
or convulsing regardless of cause of injury. If medical
advice/attention is needed, have product
container or label at hand.
INHALATION:
Is unlikely to present an inhalation problem. If respiratory symptoms
do occur, remove patient
to fresh air. Lay patient down and keep warm and rested.
INGESTION:
Is unlikely to present an ingestion hazard. If swallowed, DO NOT
induce vomiting. Rinse
mouth. Keep subject warm and at rest. For advice, contact a doctor or
the National Poisons
Centre on 13 1126.
SKIN:
If skin contact occurs, wash affected area thoroughly with plenty of
soap and water. If skin
irritation or rash occurs, get medical advice.
EYE:
If eye contact occurs, rinse cautiously with water for at least 20
minutes. Continue rinsing.
Ensure complete irrigation of the eye by keeping eyelids apart and
away from eye and moving
the eyelids by occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids. If eye
irritation persists, get medical

TECHNICAL NOTES
ACTIVE CONSTITUENTS
Atipamezole hydrochloride 5 mg/mL
ACTIONS
Atipamezole is a selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor antagonist.
Atipamezole competitively occupies the alpha-2 receptor,
preventing binding of alpha-2 drugs.
INDICATIONS
Atipamezole is capable of reversing and abolishing the effects of
medetomidine hydrochloride in dogs and cats.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Once broached, the product must be used within 3 months. Discard the
unused portion.
For intramuscular injection.
Antipam Injection is quickly absorbed and is generally administered 15
to 60 minutes after medetomidine hydrochloride.
DOSE RATE
For intramuscular injection in dogs and cats.

TECHNICAL NOTES
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Not recommended in pregnant animals due to insufficient data.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
Due to the potent pharmacological activity of atipamezole, avoid skin
contact. Wipe off excessive spillage on skin of animals.
SIDE EFFECTS
In dogs, a transient hypotensive effect has been observed during the
first 10 minutes post injection. Vomiting and panting after
atipamezole injection have been reported but these effects appear to
be rare. Transient over-alertness and tachycardia may be
observed after possible overdose.
FIRST AID
If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre on
13 1126.
DISPOSAL
Dispose of empty container by wrapping with paper and placing in the
garbage.
