WHAT QUEMOX TABLET 500MG IS
USED FOR
Quemox Tablet 500mg is used for the treatment
of
_Trichuris trichiura_
(whipworm),
_Enterobius _
_vermicularis_
(pinworm),
_Ascaris lumbricoides_
(roundworm),
_Ancylostoma _
_duodenale_
(common
hookworm),
_Necator _
_americanus_
(American
hookworm)
and
_Strongyloides _
_stercoralis_
(threadworm) in single and/or mixed
worm infestations in adults and children.
HOW QUEMOX TABLET 500MG WORKS
Quemox Tablet 500mg contains mebendazole,
which belongs to a group of medicines called
anthelmintics
that
eliminates
parasitic
worm
infections. It kills the worms within a few days
of taking.
BEFORE YOU USE QUEMOX TABLET 500MG
_- When you must not use it _
Do not use Quemox Tablet 500mg if you are
allergic towards mebendazole.
Do not use Quemox Tablet 500mg if you are
pregnant or breastfeeding.
Cannot be used in children under two years of
age.
_- Before you start to use it _
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any
other health related problems.

including
those
without a prescription. Inform your doctor or

are

cimetidine
(a

HOW TO USE QUEMOX TABLET 500MG
_- How much to use _
The same dosage applies to adults and children
above 2 years of age: Chew 1 tablet as a single
dose. Repeat if required after 2 to 3 weeks.

TABLET 500MG
Quemox (Mebendazole) is Methyl-N-(5-Benzoyl-2-Benzimidazoyl-1)
Carbamate. It
is a new pan-anthelmintic agent against trichuriasis, ancylostomiasis
(A. duodenale
and N. americanus), enterobiasis, ascariasis and strongyloidiasis in
single and / or
in mixed infestations in adults and children.

PHARMACODYNAMICS
Quemox exerts its anthelmintic effect by interfering (or inhibiting)
with the uptake of
exogeneous glucose by the susceptible helminths, leading to glycogen
depletion
and reduced generation of ATP required for survival. As a result, the
parasites die or
are immobilized only slowly, and their clearance from the
gastrointestinal tract may
not be complete until the third day after treatment. Only an
insignificant amount of
Quemox is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Most of this is
excreted in the
urine within three days, either as metabolites or unchanged drug.
Quemox can be
used against all the stages of helminth’s life-cycle, including
mature and immature
forms, even the egg stage.
PHARMACOKINETICS
a) Quemox is a broad spectrum anthelmintic. It is useful in the
treatment of
ascariasis, enterobiasis, trichuriasis, uncinariasis and multiple
helminthes
infections.
b) Quemox is not significantly absorbed from the gastrointestinal
tract; only about
2% of a dose is excreted unchanged or as a metabolite in the urine.
c) Quemox is distributed in serum, cyst fluid, liver, omental fat and
pelvis,
pulmonary and hepatic cysts; highest concentration found in liver;
relatively
high concentration are found in muscle-encysted trichinella spiralis
larvae;
crosses the placenta, also.
d) It is approximately 95% excreted unchanged or as the primary
metabolite (2-
amino
derivatives)
in
faeces
and
it
is
approximately
2
to
5%
excreted
unchanged as the primary metabolite in urine.
