Manufacturer and Product Registration holder 10.Date of revision WHAT PRISOLONE IS USED FOR Conditions requiring steroids e.g. allergic disorders such as asthma and allergic skin reactions; blood disorders, collagen and rheumatic disorders; connective tissue disorders and gastrointestinal disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease. HOW PRISOLONE WORKS Prisolone belongs to a group of medicines called steroids, which occur naturally in the body. It is a medicine to treat various illnesses involving inflammation in the body, by reducing this inflammation. BEFORE YOU USE PRISOLONE - _When you must not use it _ - ulcer in stomach or intestine - fragile bone - psychoses - infections including chickenpox and viral infection - vaccination with live vaccine - _Before you start to use it _ Talk to your doctor before taking Prisolone, if you have: systemic sclerosis (an autoimmune disorder). Taking daily doses of 15mg or more may increase the risk of a serious complication called scleroderma renal crisis which may cause your blood pressure to increase and reduce urination. Tell your doctor before you start if you have: - heart failure or high blood pressure - diabetes - kidney or liver function impairment - inflammation in the large intestines - muscle weakness - underactive thyroid gland which can cause tiredness or weight gain - infectious diseases - tuberculosis Prolonged treatment in children should be closely observed. - _Taking other medicines_ Taking with barbiturates (as sedative), phenytoin (for fits) or rifampicin (for tuberculosis) may reduce the effects of steroids.
