WHAT _MONTEXIN _IS USED FOR
1.
Prevention and chronic treatment of
asthma
in
adults
and
pediatric
patients 12 months of age and older.
2.
The relief of symptoms of allergic
rhinitis (seasonal allergic rhinitis in
adults and pediatric patients 2 years
of age and older).
HOW _MONTEXIN _WORKS
_Montexin _contains an active ingredient
montelukast.
_Montelukast _ is a
leukotriene receptor
antagonist that blocks substances called
leukotrienes.
Leukotrienes
cause
narrowing and swelling of airways in
the
lungs
and
also
cause
allergy
symptoms. By blocking leukotrienes, it
improves
asthma
symptoms,
helps
control asthma and improves seasonal
allergy symptoms.
BEFORE YOU USE _MONTEXIN_
_When you must not use it_
Do not use _ Montexin _ if you had an
allergic
reaction
(hypersensitivity)
to
montelukast
or
any other
ingredients
listed at the end of this leaflet.
_Pregnancy and lactation_
Do
not
take
_Montexin _
if
you
are
pregnant,
trying
to
get
pregnant
or
think you may be pregnant. If you get
pregnant while taking _ Montexin_, stop
taking it immediately and contact your
doctor.
Do not take _Montexin _if you are breast-
feeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist
for advice before taking any medicine.
_Before you start to use it_
Tell
your
doctor
before
you
start
taking your tablets if you:
•
have phenylketonuria (inherited
disorder that causes an amino acid
called phenylalanine to build up in
your body)
•
are allergic to aspirin.
•
have had an allergy to any other
medicines, foods, preservatives or
dyes.
_Montexin _
is
not
indicated
for
acute
asthma attacks.

[ PRODUCT DESCRIPTION ]
Montexin Chewable Tablets 4 mg:
It is a pink oval tablet, a ST/025 is scored on one side.
Montexin Chewable Tablets 5 mg:
It is a pink round tablet, a ST/027 is scored on one side.
[ INGREDIENTS ]
Each Chewable Tablet contains:
Montelukast Sodium 4.2 mg (equivalent to Montelukast 4.0 mg)
Montelukast Sodium 5.2 mg (equivalent to Montelukast 5.0 mg)
[ THERAPEUTIC CLASS ]
Montelukast Sodium, the active ingredient in Montexin, is a selective
and orally
active leukotriene receptor antagonist that specifically inhibits the
cysteinyl
leukotriene CysLT1 receptor.
[ INDICATIONS ]
Montexin is indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of
asthma in
adults and pediatric patients 12 months of age and older.
Montexin is indicated for the relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis
(seasonal
allergic rhinitis in adults and pediatric patients 2 years of age and
older).
[ ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION ] Oral
[ DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION ]
Montexin should be taken once daily. For asthma, the dose should be
taken in
the evening. For seasonal allergic rhinitis, the time of
administration may be
individualized to suit patient needs.
Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take only one
tablet daily
in the evening.
_PEDIATRIC PATIENTS 6 TO 14 YEARS OF AGE WITH ASTHMA OR SEASONAL
ALLERGIC _
_RHINITIS _
The dosage for pediatric patients 6 to 14 years of age is one 5-mg
chewable
tablet daily. No dosage adjustment within this age group is necessary.
_PEDIATRIC PATIENTS 2 TO 5 YEARS OF AGE WITH ASTHMA OR SEASONAL
ALLERGIC _
_RHINITIS _
The dosage for pediatric patients 2 to 5 years of age is one 4-mg
chewable tablet
daily.
_GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS _
The therapeutic effect of Montelukast on parameters of asthma control
occurs
within one day. Montelukast chewable tablets can be taken with or
without food.
Patients should be advised to continue taking Montelukast while their
asthma is
controlled, as well as during periods of worsening asthm
