WHAT GTN IS USED FOR
GTN is used to:
-Improved blood flow in heart
-Prevent
or
treat
chest
pain
caused by heart muscle spasm
(angina pectoris)
-Relief
of
kidney
and
gallbladder colic
HOW GTN WORKS
GTN
contains
500mcg
of
glyceryl
trinitrate.
It
relaxes
muscles
surrounding
blood
vessels (arteries and veins) and
so helps more blood and oxygen
reach the heart.
BEFORE YOU USE GTN
_-When you must not take it_
Do not use GTN if:
-You
have
known
hypersensitivity to nitrates and
other ingredients in the tablets.
-You have anemia, head trauma,
bleeding in the brain or closed
angle
glaucoma
(an
eye
problem)
-You have coronary thrombosis
(blood clot inside heart blood
vessel)
-You are taking medicines for
erectile
dysfunction,
like
sildenafil
_-Before you start to take it _
Tell your doctor or pharmacist
if you:
-are
allergic
to
glyceryl
trinitrate, nitrates or any other
medicines/ dyes/ food.
-have
severe
liver
or
kidney
problem
-hve
hypothyroidism
(underproduction
of
thyroid
hormone)
-have
low
body
temperature
(hypothermia)
-have had any of heart problems
_-Taking other medicines _
Tell your doctor or pharmacist
if
you
are
taking
any
other
medicines,
including
any
that
you
buy
without
prescription
especially:
-Sildenafil, used to treat erectile
problems
Please
consult
your
doctor
or
pharmacist as they will have a
more complete and detail list of
medicines
that
may
interfere
with
GTN
if
they
are
administered together.
HOW TO TAKE GTN
_-How much to take _
1-2 tablets (0.5-1.0mg) should
be placed under the tongue and
allowed to dissolve slowly; this
dose
should
be
repeated
as
required.
