WHAT GASCOVID LIQUID IS USED FOR
Used
for
treatment
of
symptoms
of
gastro-oesophageal reflux such as acid
regurgitation, heartburn, indigestion due
to reflux of stomach contents.
HOW GASCOVID LIQUID WORKS
Gascovid Liquid belongs to a group of
medicines called ‘reflux suppressants’,
which form a protective layer on the top
of
the
stomach
contents
to
prevent
stomach acid from escaping from the
stomach where it works into the food
pipe causing pain and discomfort.
BEFORE YOU USE GASCOVID LIQUID

Do not take this medicine if:

you know you are allergic to any of
the
ingredients
as
very
rarely
difficulty
in
breathing
and
skin
rashes have occurred.
Some of the symptoms of an allergic
reaction may include:

urticaria

bronchospasm

anaphylactic
or
anaphylactoid
reactions
Do
not
take
this
medicine
after
the
expiry date printed on the pack or if the
packaging is damaged.
If you are not sure whether you should
start taking this medicine, talk to your
pharmacist or doctor.

DESCRIPTION
White to off white opaque suspension with peppermint flavour.
COMPOSITION
Each 10ml contains Sodium Alginate 500mg, Sodium Bicarbonate 267mg and
Calcium Carbonate 160mg.
ACTIONS AND PHARMACOLOGY
Pharmacotherapeutic classification: A02BX Other drugs for peptic ulcer
and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD)
On ingestion Gascovid Liquid react rapidly with gastric acid to form a
raft of alginic acid gel having a near neutral pH and
which floats on the stomach contents, quickly and effectively impeding
gastro-oesophageal reflux, for up to 4 hours. In severe
cases the raft itself may be refluxed into the oesophagus, in
preference to the stomach contents, and exert a demulcent effect.
PHARMACOKINETICS
The mode of action of Gascovid Liquid is physical and does not depend
on absorption into the systemic circulation.
INDICATIONS
Treatment of symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux such as acid
regurgitation, heartburn, indigestion due to reflux of
stomach contents.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
This medicinal product is contraindicated in patients with known or
suspected hypersensitivity to the active substances or to
any of the excipients.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Open controlled studies in 281 pregnant women did not demonstrate any
significant adverse effects of Gascovid Liquid on
the course of pregnancy or on the health of the foetus or new-born
child. Based on this Gascovid Liquid may be used during
pregnancy and lactation.
PRECAUTIONS
This product contains methyl hydroxybenzoate and propyl
hydroxybenzoate which may cause allergic reactions possibly
delayed.
This product contains sodium. This should be taken into account when a
highly restricted salt diet is recommended, e.g. in
some cases of congestive cardiac failure and renal impairment.
This product contains calcium carbonate. Care needs to be taken in
treating patients with hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis
and recurrent calcium containing renal calculi.
There is a possibility of reduced efficacy in patients with very low
levels of gastric acid.
