It does not contain all the available information. It does not take the place of talking to your doctor or pharmacist. All medicines have risks and benefits. Your doctor has weighed the risks of you being given DORIBAX against the benefits this medicine is expected to have for you. If you have any concerns about being given this medicine, ask your doctor. Keep this leaflet while being treated. You may need to read it again. WHAT DORIBAX IS USED FOR DORIBAX belongs to a class of antibiotics called carbapenems. It works by killing the bacteria (germs) that cause infections in various parts of the body. These infections include: • pneumonia (lung infection) that occurs in a hospital or similar setting including pneumonia that occurs when on a breathing machine • complicated abdominal (stomach) infections • complicated infections of the urinary tract including kidney and bladder infections, and cases that may have spread to the bloodstream. DORIBAX will not work against infections caused by a bacteria known as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It will also not work against infections caused by viruses such as colds or the flu. Your doctor may have prescribed this medicine for another reason. _ _ CCDS 121024 1 jcpdorij10313 DORIBAX ® FOR INJECTION 500 MG POWDER FOR INTRAVENOUS INFUSION PRODUCT INFORMATION NAME OF THE MEDICINE Doripenem (as monohydrate) The chemical name for doripenem monohydrate is (4_R_,5_S_,6_S_)-3-[((3_S_,5_S_)-5- [[(aminosulfonyl)amino]methyl]-3-pyrrolidinyl)thio]-6-[(1_R_)-1-hydroxyethyl]-4-methyl-7-oxo-1- azabicyclo[3.2.0]hept-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid monohydrate. Doripenem monohydrate has the following chemical structure: . The powder is constituted for intravenous infusion. Each single dose vial contains 500mg doripenem as doripenem monohydrate. The pH of the infusion solution is between 4.5 and 5.5. DORIBAX ® is not formulated with any inactive ingredients. SOLUBILITY Doripenem monohydrate is soluble in _N,N_-dimethylformamide, sparingly soluble in water and pH 3-9 buffer, slightly soluble in methanol, and practically insoluble in acetonitrile, ethanol (99.5%), 2-propanol, 1-octanol, tetrahydrofuran, ethyl acetate, and hexane at 20 °C.
