WHAT DEXCHLORAMINE IS USED FOR
For treatment of long term and seasonal
allergic rhinitis (inflammation of the
mucous membrane inside the nose),
allergic conjunctivitis (inflammation or
redness of the lining of the white part of
the eye and inner eyelid) and allergic skin
reactions (a raised, itchy rash on the skin)
and angioedema (swelling of the deeper
layers of the skin).
HOW DEXCHLORAMINE WORKS
Dexchloramine contains an antihistamine,
dexchlorpheniramine maleate. Histamine
is a chemical released in the body during
an allergic reaction which causes itching
and inflammation. Dexchloramine blocks
the effects of histamine.
BEFORE YOU USE DEXCHLORAMINE
_- When you must not use it _
- Do not take Dexchloramine if you are
allergic to its active ingredient or to any
other ingredients in it.
- Ask your doctor or pharmacist for
advice before taking any medicine.
_ Pregnancy and lactation _
Do not take Dexchloramine if you are
pregnant, trying to get pregnant or think
you may be pregnant.
Do not take Dexchloramine if you are
breast-feeding. Ask your doctor or
pharmacist for advice before taking any
medicine.
_- Before you start to use it _
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you
have any of the following:
- glaucoma (a condition in which there is
a build-up of fluid in the eye)
- acute asthma
- kidney function impairment
- high blood pressure
- overactive thyroid gland
- diabetes mellitus
_- Taking other medicines _
Tell your doctor if you are taking any
other medicines, including any that you
buy without a prescription from a
pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.
