WHAT DEQUADIN LOZENGES 0.25MG IS
USED FOR
Dequadin Lozenges 0.25mg is used for
symptomatic relief of sore throat.
HOW DEQUADIN LOZENGES 0.25MG
WORKS
Dequadin Lozenges 0.25mg contains
dequalinium chloride as an active
ingredient. Dequalinium chloride has
antiseptic effect and works by killing a
wide range of bacteria, some fungi and
viruses.
BEFORE YOU USE DEQUADIN LOZENGES
0.25MG
_ When you must not use it _
Do not take this medicine if you have
an allergy to:
•
dequalinium chloride
•
any of the other ingredients
listed at the end of this leaflet
Do not take this medicine after the
expiry date printed on the pack or if the
packaging is torn or shows signs of
tampering. If it has expired or is
damaged, return it to your pharmacist
for disposal.
If you are not sure whether you should
start taking this medicine, talk to your
doctor.
_Before you start to use it _
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you
have allergies to any other medicines,
foods, preservatives or dyes.
_Taking other medicines _
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you
are taking any other medicines,
including any that you get without a
prescription from your pharmacy,
supermarket or health food shop.
Some medicines and Dequadin
Lozenges 0.25mg may interfere with
each other.
Your doctor and pharmacist have more

with or avoid while taking this
medicine.

Suck one lozenge slowly. Repeat as
necessary.

PRESENTATION
Each Dequadin Lozenge contains Dequalinium chloride BP 0.25mg. The
lozenge
is
salmon-pink
coloured
with
a
pleasant
odour,
taste
of
peppermint and engraved with the code ‘DEQUADIN’ on one side.
PHARMACODYNAMICS
Dequalinium Chloride BP is a quarternary ammonium compound whose
major site of action appears to be the cell membrane, where the agent
cause changes in membrane permeability.
PHARMACOKINETICS
Being a quaternary ammonium compound, it is bactericidal in-vitro
in
low concentrations
against
a
wide
variety
of
gram-positive
and
gram-negative bacteria; the gram-positive microorganisms are the most
sensitive. Many fungi and
viruses
are
susceptible. _Borrelia _
_vincenti_,
_candida albicans _and some species of _Trichophyton_ are susceptible.
Quaternary ammonium compounds are detergents as well as sanitizers,
and they have been employed as all-purpose antiseptics for application
to skin, tissue and mucous membranes and as disinfectants for medical
and surgical materials.
As an antiseptic, these substances are relatively ono-irritating to
tissue in
effective concentrations. They have a rapid onset of action. They wet
