WHAT BLOPRESS PLUS IS USED FOR
Blopress Plus is used for treating
hypertension
(high
blood
pressure), where a monotherapy is
not sufficiently effective.
HOW BLOPRESS PLUS WORKS
Candesartan cilexetil is a type of
medicine called an angiotensin II
receptor
antagonist,
which
by
blocking
the
effects
of
the
hormone
angiotensin
II,
causes
relaxation of the blood vessels and
results in a lowering of the blood
pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a
class of drugs called diuretics. Its
effects
promote
the
urinary
excretion of sodium, chloride and
water and results in a lowering of
the blood pressure.
BEFORE YOU USE BLOPRESS PLUS
_- When you must not use it _

If
you
are
allergic
to
any
component of Blopress Plus or
to sulfonamide derived drugs.

If you are pregnant.

If you are breast-feeding.

If you have severe liver disease.

If
you
have
severe
kidney
disease.

If you have had gout.

If you have diabetes or impaired
kidney
function
and
you
are
treated
with
a
blood
pressure
medicine containing aliskiren.

Before you take Blopress Plus, tell
your doctor if:

you are pregnant or planning to
get pregnant

you have kidney problem

you have liver problem and/or
cholestasis.

you
have
refractory
hypokalaemia
and
hypercalcaemia.

you have gout.

_- Taking other medicines _
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if
you are using, have recently used
or might
use any other medicines.

some other medicines work, and
some
medicines
can
influence

BLOPRESS PLUS TABLET 16/12.5MG
(Candesartan cilexetil and Hydrochlorothiazide)
BLOPRESS PLUS is an oral combination product consisting of candesartan
cilexetil, a
selective
angiotensin II (AII) subtype 1 (AT1) receptor antagonist, and
hydrochlorothiazide
(HCTZ), a thiazide diuretic. BLOPRESS PLUS has been developed as an
antihypertensive.
COMPOSITION
BLOPRESS 16mg PLUS is a light pink, oval flat tablet with a score and
engraved 16|C on both
sides. Each tablet contains 16 mg candesartan cilexetil and 12.5 mg
hydrochlorothiazide.
INDICATION
Treatment
of
essential
hypertension
where
monotherapy
with
candesartan
cilexetil
or
hydrochlorothiazide is not sufficient.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
_Dosage_
The recommended dose of BLOPRESS PLUS is one tablet (16mg/12.5mg) once
daily. When
clinically appropriate a direct change from monotherapy to BLOPRESS
PLUS may be
considered.
Most of the antihypertensive effect is usually attained within 4 weeks
of initiation of treatment.

_Administration_
BLOPRESS PLUS should be taken once daily with or without food.
_ _
_Use in the elderly_
No initial dosage adjustment is necessary in elderly patients.
_ _
_Use in patients with intravascular volume depletion_
Dose titration of candesartan cilexetil is recommended in patients at
risk for hypotension, such
as patients with possible volume depletion (an initial dose of
candesartan cilexetil of 4 mg may
be
considered in these patients).
_Use in impaired renal function_
Loop diuretics are preferred to thiazides in this population. Dose
titration of candesartan
cilexetil
is recommended in patients with renal impairment whose creatinine
clearance is > 30
ml/min/1.73 m
2
BSA before treatment with BLOPRESS PLUS (the recommended starting dose
of candesartan cilexetil is 4 mg in patients with mild to moderate
renal impairment).
BLOPRESS PLUS should not be used in patients with severe renal
impairment (creatinine
clearance < 30 ml/min/1.73 m
2
BSA) (see CONTRAINDICATIONS).
