Manufacturer and Product Registration Holder 10. Date of Revision WHAT BETAMOX IS USED FOR Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to treat infections in different parts of the body caused by bacteria. These may be infections of the: • Skin and skin structure • Respiratory • Urinary and genital tract • Gonorrhoea (venereal disease) • Prevention for the infection of the heart Your doctor may have prescribed BETAMOX for another reason. Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why BETAMOX has been prescribed for you. HOW BETAMOX WORKS Amoxycillin is an antibiotic that belongs to a group of medicines called penicillins. These antibiotics work by killing the bacteria that are causing your infection. BEFORE YOU USE BETAMOX - _When you must not use it_ _ _ Do not take BETAMOX if you have an allergy to: • amoxycillin, • other penicillins or cephalosporins • any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet. Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction may include skin rash, itchiness, shortness of breath, swelling of the face, lips or tongue. Do not use BETAMOX if: • The packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering. • Do not use BETAMOX after the expiry date printed on the bottle or box has passed. • If you are not sure whether you should start taking BETAMOX contact your doctor or pharmacist - _Before you start to use it_ _ _ Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to any antibiotics in the past. [DUOPHARMA (M) SDN BHD] Page 1 of 2 [REVISION DATE:14.03.2023] BETAMOX GRANULES DESCRIPTION: White to yellowish granules, upon reconstitution it forms white to yellowish suspension COMPOSITION: BETAMOX GRANULES 125MG/ 5ML: Each 5mL of the reconstituted suspension contains Amoxycillin Trihydrate equivalent to Amoxycillin 125mg BETAMOX GRANULES 250MG/ 5ML: Each 5mL of the reconstituted suspension contains Amoxycillin Trihydrate equivalent to Amoxycillin 250mg PHARMACODYNAMICS: Amoxycillin differs in vitro from benzylpenicillin in the Gram-negative spectrum. Amoxycillin has the same Gram-positive and Gram-negative spectrum as ampicillin. In vitro most strains of_ Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoea, Neisseria meningitidis, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonellae, alpha-_ and _ beta-_ _haemolytic streptococci, Diplococcus pneumoniae_, non- penicillinase producing _ Staphylococci _ and _ Streptococcus faecalis,_ are sensitive to amoxycillin at serum concentrations which may be expected following the recommended doses. However, some of the organisms were sensitive to amoxycillin only at concentrations achieved in the urine (see Indications). _Escherichia coli_ isolates are becoming increasingly resistant to amoxycillin in vitro due to the presence of penicillinase-producing strains. Strains of gonococci which are relatively resistant to benzylpenicillin may be sensitive to amoxycillin. Amoxycillin is not affect against penicillinase-producing bacteria, particularly resistant staphylococci, which now have a high prevalence. All strains of _Pseudomonas, _ _Klebsiella, _ _Enterobacter,_ indole-positive _Proteus, _ _Serratia _ _marcescens, _ _Citrobacter_, penicillinase-producing _N.gonorrhoea_ and penicillinase-producing _H.influenzae_ are also resistant. Like benzylpenicillin, amoxycillin is bactericidal against sensitive organisms during the stage of active multiplication.
