WHAT BEATAFED IS USED FOR
This medicine is used to relief symptoms
associated
with
the
common
cold,
sinusitis (inflammation of the lining of
the
sinuses)
and
allergic
conditions
including
hayfever,
allergic
asthma,
vasomotor
(nonallergic)
rhinitis,
pollenosis
(an
allergic
reaction
to
pollen),
allergic
rhinitis
(an
allergic
inflammation of the nasal airways) and
urticaria (raised, itchy areas of skin).
HOW BEATAFED WORKS
The
tablet
contains
pseudoephedrine
hydrochloride,
a
decongestant
which
works by reducing the swelling of blood
vessels inside your nose. This helps to
open
up
your
nasal
airway,
making
breathing easier.
Triprolidine
is
an
antihistamine
which
works
by
blocking
a
certain
natural
substance
(histamine)
that
your
body
makes during an allergic reaction. It also
helps
to
dry
up
some
body
fluids
to
relieve symptoms such as watery eyes
and runny nose.
Ask

BEFORE YOU USE BEATAFED

Do not take this medicine if you have an
allergy to:

Triprolidine
hydrochloride,
pseudoephedrine hydrochloride
•
any of the other ingredients listed at
the end of the leaflet
•
any other similar medicines
Do not take BEATAFED if you:
•
have very high blood pressure
•
have severe heart disease
•
are taking, or have taken in the last
two
weeks,
drugs
for
depression
known
as
monoamine
oxidase
inhibitors (MAOIs)

from a doctor or pharmacist.

BEATAFED TABLET
A 8 mm diameter, round, flat,VFRUHG on one side, plain on the
other side, white tablet.
Relief of symtoms associated with the common cold, sinusitis
and allergic conditions including hayfever, allergic asthma,
vasomotor rhinitis, pollenosis, allergic rhinitis and urticaria.
Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic agent which acts on
alpha - adrenergic receptors in the mucosa of the respiratory tract,
producing vasoconstriction. The medication shrinks swollen
nasal mucous membranes, reduces tissue hyperemia, edema, and
nasal congestion, and increase nasal airway patency. Also,
drainage of sinus secretions may be increased and obstruction
eustachian ostia may be opened.
Tripolidine is an antihistamine which competes with histamine
for H1 - receptor sites on effector cells. It thereby prevents
responses mediated by histamine alone. The anticholinergic
actions of most antihistamines provide a drying effect on the
nasal mucosa.
Pseudoephedrine is absorbed from the gastro - intestinal tract. It is
resistant to metablism by monoamine oxidase and is largely
excreted unchanged in the urine together with small amounts of
its hepatic metabolite. It has a half - life of several hours;
eliminationn is enchanced and half - life accordingly shorter in acid
urine. Small amounts are excreted in breast milk. Tripolidine is
absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and metabolised and
excreted in the urine. Half - life vary from 3 to 5 hours or more.
