Contents of the pack and other information The name of this medicine is Ciprofloxacin 250 mg, 500 mg or 750 mg Film-coated Tablets. 1. WHAT CIPROFLOXACIN IS AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR? Ciprofloxacin belongs to a group of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It works by killing some types of bacteria that can cause infections. Ciprofloxacin is used to treat bacterial infections including: • Lung infections such as pneumonia • Infections of the bladder and kidneys • Severe gastro-enteritis • Infections in the abdomen around the gut • Infections of the gall bladder and bile • Infections of the skin and spreading infections under the skin • Infections in the womb and tubes leading to the ovaries and in the area around these organs • Infections of the genital organs, including gonorrhoea (a sexually transmitted disease) and inflammation of the prostate gland in men • Infections in the bones and joints • Infections that have spread to the blood • Infections in people who have poor immunity to infections • Prevention of infections after surgery on the gut or after procedures that involve passing cameras (endoscopes) int Izlasiet visu dokumentu
1 SUMMARY OF PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS 1. TRADE NAME OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT Ciprofloxacin 750 mg, film coated tablets. 2. QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION Each tablet contains 873.0mg ciprofloxacin hydrochloride equivalent to 750mg ciprofloxacin (INN). For excipients see 6.1 3. PHARMACEUTICAL FORM Film coated tablets. Off-white, capsule shaped, biconvex, film coated tablets with CP/750 on one side and on the other. 4. CLINICAL PARTICULARS 4.1 THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS Ciprofloxacin is indicated for the treatment of the following infections caused by sensitive bacteria: _ _ _ADULTS:_ _ _ _Respiratory _ _tract _ _infections_: e.g. lobar and bronchopneumonia, acute and chronic bronchitis, acute exacerbation of cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, empyema. Ciprofloxacin is not recommended as first-line therapy for the treatment of pneumococcal pneumonia. Ciprofloxacin may be used for treating Gram-negative pneumonia. _ _ _Ear, nose and throat infections_: e.g. mastoiditis, otitis media and sinusitis, especially if due to Gram-negative bacteria (including_ Pseudomonas _ spp.)_._ Ciprofloxacin is not recommended for the treatment of acute tonsillitis. _ _ _Eye infections:_ e.g. bacterial conjunctivitis. _ _ _Urinary _ _tract _ _infections: _ e.g. uncomplicated and complicated urethritis, cystitis, pyelonephritis, prostatitis, epididymitis. _ _ _Skin _ _and _ _soft _ _tissue _ _infections_: e.g. infected ulcers, wound infections, abscesses, cellulitis, otitis externa, erysipelas, infected burns. _ _ _Bone and joint infections_: e.g. osteomyelitis, septic arthritis. _ _ _Intra-abdominal infections_: e.g. peritonitis, intra-abdominal abscesses. 2 _ _ _Infections of the biliary tract_: e.g. cholangitis, cholecystitis, empyema of the gall bladder. _ _ _Gastro-intestinal infections_: e.g. enteric fever, infective diarrhoea. _ _ _Pelvic infections_: e.g. salpingitis, endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease. _ _ _Severe _ _systemic _ _infections_: e.g. septicaemia, bacteraemia, peritonitis, infections in immuno-suppressed Izlasiet visu dokumentu
