It does not contain all the available information. It does not take the place of talking to your doctor or pharmacist. All medicines have risks and benefits. Your doctor has weighed the risks of you taking TEMGESIC against the benefits they expect it will have for you. IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS ABOUT TAKING TEMGESIC, ASK YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST. KEEP THIS LEAFLET WITH THE MEDICINE. You may need to read it again. WHAT TEMGESIC IS USED FOR TEMGESIC is a strong “pain killer”. It is used for the relief of moderate to severe pain. TEMGESIC belongs to a group of medicines called opioid (narcotic) analgesics. Opioid analgesics act directly on the brain and spinal cord to block the sensation of pain. Your doctor may have prescribed TEMGESIC for another reason. ASK YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT WHY TEMGESIC HAS BEEN PRESCRIBED FOR YOU. TEMGESIC contains the active ingredient, buprenorphine hydrochloride (or buprenorphine). People who take buprenorphine to relieve short term pain do not usually become addicted to it. It is important that you discuss this issue with your doctor. BEFORE YOU ARE GIVEN TEMGESIC. _WHEN YOU MUST NOT USE IT _ YOU SHOULD NOT TAKE TEMGESIC IF YOU ARE: allergic to buprenorphine or to any of the other ingredients in this medicine (see Product Description at the end of this leaflet). allergic to opioid (narcotic) medicines. pregnant. breast-feeding a baby. a child.
