WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR The name of your medicine is APO- Irbesartan HCTZ. It contains the active ingredient irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ). It is used to treat high blood pressure, which doctors call hypertension. Everyone has blood pressure. This pressure helps get your blood all around your body. Your blood pressure may be different at different times of the day, depending on how busy or worried you are. You have hypertension (high blood pressure) which means your blood pressure stays high, even when you are calm and relaxed. There are usually no symptoms of high blood pressure. The only way of knowing that you have hypertension is to have your blood pressure checked on a regularly basis. It is a relatively non-polar compound with a partition coefficient (octanol-water) of 10.1 at a pH of 7.4. Irbesartan is slightly soluble in alcohol and methylene chloride, and practically insoluble in water. Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) is a white crystalline powder. It is slightly soluble in water but freely soluble in sodium hydroxide solution.
