WHAT DAPSONE TABLET IS USED FOR
It is used for:
•
all types of leprosy (especially
of lepromatous and tuberculoid
leprosy)
•
skin problems
(dermatitis
herpetiformis
and
other
dermatoses)
•
the prevention of malaria
•
mycetoma
(chronic
inflammation
of
the
tissues
caused
by
infection
with
a
fungus or with certain bacteria).
HOW DAPSONE TABLET WORKS
Dapsone Tablet belongs to a group
of medicines called antibacterial. It
works by stopping the production of
folic
acid
in
certain
bacteria,
therefore
stopping
them
from
growing.
BEFORE YOU USE DAPSONE TABLET
-_When you must not use it _
Do not take Dapsone Tablet if you:
•
are allergic (hypersensitive) to
dapsone,
any
of
the
other
ingredients in the tablet, or to
similar
medicines
such
as
sulphonamide or sulphone. An
allergic reaction may include a
rash,
itching,
difficulty
breathing or swelling of the face,
lips, throat or tongue.
•
suffer
from
severe
anaemia
(deficiency of red blood cells or
of hemoglobin in the blood).
•
have
porphyria
(a
genetic
or
inherited
disorder
of
the
red
blood pigment, haemoglobin)
•
suffer from severe g l u c o s e 6-
phosphate
dehydrogenase
deficiency
(G6PD),
this
can
cause episodes of anaemia after
eating certain foods such as fava
beans (favism).
Do not take Dapsone Tablet if any
of the above applies. If you are not
sure,
talk
to
your
doctor
or
pharmacist before taking Dapsone
Tablet.

Your doctor needs to know before
you take Dapsone Tablet if you have
or have had any of the following
conditions:
•
heart or lung disease.
•
Pregnant or lactating
•
Sugar intolerance
