PRESCRIPTION DRUG
To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of Meropenem for Injection and other antibacterial drugs, Meropenem for Injection should only be used to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. When culture and susceptibility information are available, they should be considered in selecting or modifying antibacterial therapy. In the absence of such data, local epidemiology and susceptibility patterns may contribute to the empiric selection of therapy. Meropenem for Injection is useful as presumptive therapy in the indicated condition (e.g. intra-abdominal infections) prior to the identification of the causative organisms because of its broad spectrum of bactericidal activity. For information regarding use in pediatric patients see Indications and Usage (1.1), (1.2) or (1.3) ; Dosage and Administration (2.3) , Adverse Reactions (6.1) , and Clinical Pharmacology (12.3) . Meropenem for Injection is indicated as a
Meropenem for Injection is supplied in 20 mL and 30 mL injection vials containing sufficient meropenem to deliver 500 mg or 1 gram for intravenous administration, respectively. The dry powder should be stored at controlled room temperature 20º - 25º C (68º -77º F) [see USP].
