WHAT CORBETA TABLET IS USED FOR
Corbeta Tablet is used to:
•
Treat high blood pressure
•
Treat severe chest pain
•
Control irregular or fast heart beats and
other symptoms caused by an overactive
thyroid gland
•
To reduce migraine attacks
•
To calm people who are anxious or worried
•
Prevent stomach bleeding in patients with
high blood pressure in their liver or swollen
blood vessels in their gullet
HOW CORBETA TABLET WORKS
Corbeta Tablet works by slowing down the
heart and decreasing the amount of blood
it pumps out. This helps to decrease blood
pressure, the heart pumps more efficiently,
and reduces the workload on the heart.
BEFORE YOU USE CORBETA TABLET
_- When you must not use it_
Do not use Corbeta Tablet in the following
conditions:
•
Allergic to any ingredient of the tablet
•
Severe heart block
•
Sick sinus syndrome
•
Cardiogenic shock
•
Bronchial asthma
•
Child with diabetes and heart failure

CORBETA TABLET 40MG
DESCRIPTION
Corbeta tablets contain Propranolol Hydrochloride, a beta
adrenergic blocking agent. Chemically Corbeta is (+) -1-
Isopropylamino - 3 - ( l - naphthyloxy) propan-2- ol
hydrochloride.
COMPOSITION
Clean, uniform, round, flat, bevel edged tablets, scored on one
side and pink in colour.
ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION : ORAL
ACTIONS
Corbeta specifically blocks all beta-adrenergic receptors, thus
producing cardiac sympathectomy.
It is an antihypertensive drug. Its mode of action in lowering
arterial
pressure is as follows :
1)
by decreasing cardiac output
2)
by decreasing sympathetic tone by some central actions
3)
by decreasing plasma renin activity
4)
by the resetting of baroreceptor mechanism
Corbeta exerts its antiarrhythmic effects in concentrations at which
it
causes
beta-adrenergic
blockade.
It
also
corrects
digitalis
induced cardiac arrthythmias on the same principle. The beneficial
effect in angina is due to the reduced oxygen consumption of the
heart following Corbeta administration.
PHARMACOLOGY
Propranolol
is
almost
completely
absorbed
from
the
gastrointestinal tract, but a portion is bound by the liver. Peak
ii)
Persistent sinus tachycardia.
iii)
Tachycardias and arrhythmias due to thyrotoxicosis when
causing distress or increased hazard and when immediate
effect is necessary as adjunctive short term therapy.
iv)
Persistant atrial extrasystoles.
v)
Atrial flutter and fibrillation when ventricular rate cannot be
controlled by digitalis alone or when digitalis is
contraindicated.
(d)
VENTRICULAR TACHYCARDIA : Ventricular arrhythmia is less
effectively treated by Corbeta as compared with supraventricular
arrhythmias.
Corbeta is the drug of choice in ventricular tachycardia induced
by catecholamines.
(e)
PROPHYLAXIS OF MIGRAINE : Corbeta reduces the frequency
and intensity of attacks of migrane when used on long term basis.
(f)
HYPERTROPHIC SUBAORTIC STENOSIS : Corbeta is useful in the
management of hypertrophic subaortic stenosis especially for
treatment
of
exertional
or
other
stress
