DESCRIPTION
Cefepime hydrochloride is a semi-synthetic broad spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic
for parenteral administration. Cefepime hydrochloride is a white to pale yellow
powder and is highly soluble in water.
Cefepime Sandoz is available as sterile vials containing cefepime hydrochloride
equivalent to 500mg, 1g or 2g of cefepime. It is an off-white to pale yellow
lyophilised powder. When reconstituted in water, it is a colourless faintly yellow to
brownish-yellow solution with a pH range of 4.0 to 6.0. Cefepime Sandoz powder for
injection also contains the inactive ingredient L-arginine.

PHARMACOLOGY
Pharmacokinetics (in adults)
Average plasma concentrations of cefepime observed in normal adult males at various
times following single 30-minute infusions of 500mg, 1g and 2g are summarised in
Table 1. Following intramuscular administration, cefepime is completely absorbed.
