WHAT NADOLOL BNM IS USED FOR Nadolol BNM contains the active ingredient nadolol. It belongs to a group of medicines called beta-blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels and slowing heart rate to improve blood flow or lowering your blood pressure. Nadolol BNM is used to treat: ▪ Chest pain (angina) ▪ High blood pressure (hypertension) ▪ Irregular heart beat (arrhythmias) ▪ Migraine headaches ▪ Overactive thyroid gland Your doctor may have prescribed this medicine for another reason. ASK YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT WHY IT HAS BEEN PRESCRIBED FOR YOU. Nadolol BNM is only available with a doctor's prescription. Nadolol BNM is not addictive. 2 Nadolol BNM Nadolol BNM should not be administered to children. 1 NADOLOL BNM NADOLOL TABLETS 40 MG AND 80 MG NEW ZEALAND DATA SHEET 1 NADOLOL BNM NADOLOL BNM 40 mg tablet NADOLOL BNM 80 mg tablet 2 QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION Nadolol 40 mg Each 40 mg tablet contains 76.47 mg lactose (equivalent to 80.50 mg of lactose monohydrate) Nadolol 80 mg Each 80 mg tablet contains 152.95 mg lactose (equivalent to 161.00 mg of lactose monohydrate). EXCIPIENT(S) WITH KNOWN EFFECT: Lactose Nadolol BNM 40 mg and 80 mg tablets contain lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you may have intolerance to some sugars, please contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product. Gluten Nadolol BNM 40 mg and 80 mg tablets are gluten free. For the full list of excipients, see section 6.1. 3 PHARMACEUTICAL FORM Nadolol BNM 40 mg tablets are white to off white, uncoated, round biconvex tablets, debossed with “MN” above the break line and “40” below the break line on one side and plain on the other side. Available in bottles of 100 tablets. Nadolol BNM 80 mg tablets are white to off white, uncoated, round biconvex tablets, debossed with “MN” above the break line and “80” below the break line on one side and plain on the other side. Available in bottles of 100 tablets. The tablet can be divided into equal doses. 2 NADOLOL BNM NADOLOL TABLETS 40 MG AND 80 MG 4 CLINICAL PARTICULARS 4.1 THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS • Prophylaxis of angina pectoris • Management of mild to moderate hypertension. Although nadolol may be used alone, it is more commonly prescribed in combination with other medicines, particularly thiazide diuretics. Nadolol is not recommended for the emergency treatment of hypertensive crises. • Treatment of cardiac arrhythmias • Prophylaxis of common and classic migraine headache • Symptomatic treatment of hyperthyroidism and preoperative preparation of patients for thyroidectomy. It may be used with conventional antithyroid therapy. 4.2 DOSE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION DOSE Angina Pectoris The initial starting dose is 40 mg once daily. This Leggi il documento completo
