The function of the Transseptal Cannula Set ? EF (62 cm or 72 cm length) is to aid in the insertion of the Transseptal Cannula and to transport blood from the left atrium into the circulatory support system when connected to accessory extracorporeal equipment. The Transeptal Cannula Set ? EF 72 provides an extended length to enable cannulation in individuals with a longer torso, and to accommodate the increased distance to the left atrium when cannulation is necessary from the left femoral vein. The Transseptal Cannula Set is intended for transseptal catheterization of the left atrium via the femoral vein for the purpose of providing a means for temporary left ventricular bypass when connected to the TandemHeart extracorporeal blood pump which returns blood to the patient via the femoral artery or other appropriate site.
