1. WHAT ETHANOL 96° STEROP IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Pharmacotherapeutic group: delay the methanol oxidation into toxic
metabolites.
Therapeutic indications: Treatment of methanol intoxication.
2. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU TAKE ETHANOL 96° STEROP
DO NOT USE ETHANOL 96° STEROP
In the event of severe hepatic failure.
TAKE SPECIAL CARE WITH ETHANOL 96° STEROP
The ampoules of ethanol should be diluted before use in an isotonic
solution for infusion
(physiological saline or 5% dextrose). Ethanol must be injected by
intravenous way because
subcutaneous injection causes severe pain that is immediately followed
by a local anaesthesia.
If injected close to a nerve, Ethanol can cause neuritis, resulting in
a degeneration of nerve
cells.
Peripheral nerve conduction is blocked by Ethanol through a reduction
in the conductivity
maximum values induced by both sodium and potassium.
Ethanol can exacerbate hepatic failure, epilepsy and diabetes
mellitus.
Treatment should be administered under medical supervision in a
hospital environment.
Precautions must be taken so as not to inject outside a blood vessel.
