1. WHAT VERAPRESS MR 240 TABLETS ARE AND WHAT THEY ARE USED FOR
THE NAME OF YOUR MEDICINE IS: Verapress MR 240 Tablets
Verapress MR 240 Tablets belong to a group of medicines called calcium
channel blockers.
Calcium channel blockers change the amount of calcium getting into the
muscle cells in your
heart and blood vessels. This can change the strength and speed with
which your heart
beats. It also opens up the blood vessels so blood can be pumped
around the body more
easily. This helps more oxygen to get to your heart muscle and can
lower your blood
pressure.
Verapress MR 240 Tablets are indicated for the treatment of mild to
moderate hypertension
(high blood pressure) and the treatment and prevention of angina
pectoris (chest pain).

CLINICAL PARTICULARS
4.1
THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS
Verapress MR 240 is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate
hypertension,
and for the treatment and prophylaxis of angina pectoris.
4.2
POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
_Adults:_
HYPERTENSION:
Most patients respond to 240 mg daily (one tablet) given as a single
dose. If control is not achieved after a period of at least one week
the dosage may be
increased to a maximum of two Verapress MR 240 tablets daily (one in
the morning
and one in the evening at an interval of about twelve hours). A
further reduction in
blood pressure may be achieved by combining Verapress MR 240 with
other anti-
hypertensive agents, in particular diuretics.
ANGINA PECTORIS:
One tablet of Verapress MR 240 twice daily. A small number of
patients respond to a lower dose and where indicated, adjustment down
to one tablet
of Verapress MR 240 daily could be made.
_Elderly patients_
:
The adult dose is recommended unless renal or hepatic function is
impaired (see Section 4.4, 'Special Warnings and Precautions for
Use').
The tablets should not be chewed or crushed. They should be swallowed
whole with a
glass of water.
_Children: _
Verapress MR 240 is not recommended for children.
Liver impairment
In patients with impaired liver function, metabolism of the drug is
delayed to a
greater or lesser extent depending on the severity of hepatic
dysfunction, thus
potentiating and prolonging the effects of verapamil hydrochloride.
