1. WHAT SALAZIDIN GR IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
The active substance in Salazidin GR is sulfasalazine. It is an
antiinflammatory
drug that belongs to a group of medicines called aminosalicylates and
it is used to treat inflammatory
processes like: inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
Salazidin GR is used in the treatment:
- INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE: ulcerative colitis (in acute episodes
and maintenance therapy),
Crohn’s disease (only in acute episodes).
- RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS: Salazidin GR is usually given when a group of
medicines known as
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are not working. It helps prevent
damage to your joints and
work slowly to reduce swelling and stiffness in your joints.
2. BEFORE YOU TAKE SALAZIDIN GR
DO NOT USE SALAZIDIN GR:
- if you are allergic to sulfasalazine or to any of the ingredients of
this drug;
- if you are allergic to salicylates (e.g. aspirin) or sulfonamides
(e.g. a certain type of antibiotic).
- if you have a disease known as porphyria (the presence over limits
of porphyria in blood).
Salazidin GR is not to be used in children under 2 years of age.
