Dear patient! 
Please read this product information carefully because it contains important information about what 
should be followed when applying this medicinal product. If you have any questions please ask 
your physician or your pharmacist. 

PRODUCT INFORMATION 

POSIFENICOL 1% 

Active ingredient: Azidamfenicol 
1 ml of eye drops contains 10 mg Azidamfenicol. 

The other ingredients are: 
Thiomersal (preservative) 
0.05 mg/ml 
boric acid, sodium tetraborate x 10 H
2
O, water for injections. 

Posifenicol 1% is available in packages of 5 ml eye drops.

1.1  Posifenicol 1% are antibacterially eye drops.

1.3  Posifenicol 1% is indicated for the local treatment of bacterial infections of conjunctiva and 
cornea caused by azidamfenicol-sensitive pathogens. 
Posifenicol 1% should be used only in those serious infections for which less potentially 
hazardous medicinal products are ineffective or contraindicated. 
The local treatment of the eye requires a very careful indication and should not last longer 
than 2 weeks.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER BEFORE USING POSIFENICOL 1%? 

2.1  Posifenicol 1% should not be applied in 
• 
hypersensitivity to azidamfenicol, chloramphenicol, thiamphenicol, thiomersal or one of the 
other ingredients 
• 
diseases of the hematopoietic system (e.g. aplastic anemia, acute intermittent porphyria, 
hemolytic icterus) 
• 
severe liver dysfunctions.

4.1  THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS 

Local treatment of bacterial infections of conjunctiva and cornea caused by azidamfenicolsensitive 
pathogens. 
Azidamfenicol should be used only in those serious infections for which less potentially hazardous 
medicinal products are ineffective or contraindicated. 
The local treatment at the eye requires a very careful indication and should not last longer than 2 
weeks. 

4.2  POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION 

If not otherwise prescribed instil 1 drop several times a day (every 2 hours) into the conjunctival sac. 
Azidamfenicol should not be used for longer than 2 weeks of treatment. If in special cases a longer 
treatment is necessary the hemogram has to be controlled at regular intervals. 

4.3  CONTRAINDICATIONS 

Posifenicol 1 % is contraindicated in 
• 
hypersensitivity to azidamfenicol, chloramphenicol, thiamphenicol, thiomersal or one of the other 

ingredients 
• 
diseases of the hematopoietic system (e.g. aplastic anemia, acute intermittent porphyria, hemolytic 

icterus) 
• 
severe liver dysfunctions. 
• 
children younger than 3 years.

4.4  SPECIAL WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR USE 

In principle contact lenses should not be used during treatment with Posifenicol 1%.
