SUMMARY OF PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS 1 NAME OF THE VETERINARY MEDICINAL PRODUCT Phenocillin 800 mg/g powder for use in drinking water for chickens 2 QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION 1 g powder contains: Active substance: Phenoxymethylpenicillin 800 mg (corresponding to phenoxymethylpenicillin potassium 887 mg) Excipients: For the full list of excipients, see section 6.1. 3 PHARMACEUTICAL FORM Powder for use in drinking water. White or almost white powder. 4 CLINICAL PARTICULARS 4.1 TARGET SPECIES Chickens. 4.2 INDICATIONS FOR USE, SPECIFYING THE TARGET SPECIES For the treatment and metaphylaxis of necrotic enteritis caused by _Clostridium perfringens_. The disease must have been currently diagnosed in the flock before metaphylactic use. 4.3 CONTRAINDICATIONS Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. 4.4 SPECIAL WARNINGS FOR EACH TARGET SPECIES The administration of the product may lead to an increase in medicated water consumption. If this is not possible, therapy should be based on local (regional, farm level) epidemiological information about susceptibility of the target bacteria. The product should not be used to compensate for poor hygiene and management of the farm houses.
