ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
Each g contains: bacitracin zinc 400 IU, neomycin sulfate 5 mg
(equivalent to 3.5 mg neomycin base)
and polymyxin B sulfate 10,000 IU.
ACTIONS
The three antibiotics present in Vetropolycin
provide a broad spectrum of activity against the gram-
positive and gram-negative bacteria commonly involved in superficial
infections of the eyelid and
conjunctiva. Bacitracin is effective against gram-positive bacteria
including hemolytic and non-hemolytic
streptococci and staphylococci. Resistant strains are rarely found.
Neomycin is effective against both
gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria including staphylococci,
_Escherichia coli_, _Haemophilus _
_influenza_ and many strains of _Proteus_ and _Pseudomonas_. Polymyxin
B is bactericidal to gram-negative
bacteria especially _Pseudomonas_. No resistant strains have been
found to develop _in vivo_.
INDICATIONS
For use in the treatment of superficial bacterial infections of the
eyelid and conjunctiva in dogs and cats
when caused by organisms susceptible to the antibiotics contained in
this ointment. Laboratory tests
should be conducted including _in vitro_ culturing and susceptibility
tests on samples collected prior to
treatment.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Care should be taken not to contaminate the applicator tip of the tube
during administration. Do not allow
the applicator tip to come into contact with any tissue.
