Date of revision WHAT DYNALEXIN DRY SYRUP IS USED FOR Cephalexin is a semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic for oral administration. It is indicated in the treatment of the following infections due to susceptible microorganisms: Respiratory tract infections Otitis media (ear infection) Skin and soft tissue infections Bone and joint infections Urinary tract infections, including acute prostatitis Dental infections HOW DYNALEXIN DRY SYRUP WORKS Cephalexin is bactericidal that works by inhibiting synthesis of call wall. BEFORE YOU USE DYNALEXIN DRY SYRUP - _When you must not use it _ Do not use Dynalexin Dry Syrup in patients with known allergy to the Cephalosporin group of antibiotics _ _ _Pregnancy and lactation _ _ _ Do not take Dynalexin Dry Syrup if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or think you may be pregnant. Do not take Dynalexin Dry Syrup if you are breast-feeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. - _Before you start use it _ Tell your doctor if: - Previously you have hypersensitivity reactions to Cephalosporins, Penicillin or other drugs. - You have impaired renal function. - _Taking other medicines _ Tell your doctor if you are taking Probenecid or any other medicines, including any that you buy without a prescription from a pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop. DYNALEXIN DRY SYRUP DESCRIPTION CONTENT DYNALEXIN DRY SYRUP 125MG/5ML MAL07031083AZ White coloured powder. Light green in colour suspension, opaque and smooth with vanilla flavour on adding water. Each 5 ml of the reconstituted suspension contains: Cephalexin Monohydrate equivalent to Cephalexin ......... 125 mg Colouring agents: Green S + Brilliant Blue Preservative: Sodium Benzoate 0.1% w/v DYNALEXIN DRY SYRUP 250MG/5ML MAL07031092AZ White coloured powder. Light green in colour suspension, opaque and smooth with vanilla flavour on adding water. Each 5 ml of the reconstituted suspension contains: Cephalexin Monohydrate equivalent to Cephalexin ......... 250 mg Colouring agents: Green S + Brilliant Blue Preservative: Sodium Benzoate 0.1% w/v DIRECTION FOR MIXING: 1. Shake well to loosen powder. 2. Add approximately half the final volume (30 ml or 50 ml) freshly boiled and cooled water and shake. 3. Add more water until the final volume mark (60 ml or 100 ml) is reached and shake well. To be used within 7 days of mixing. PHARMACODYNAMICS: _In vitro_ tests demonstrate that cephalosporins are bactericidal because of their inhibition of cell-wall synthesis. Cephalexin is active against the following organisms _in vitro:_ Beta-haemolytic streptococci Staphylococci, including coagulase-positive, coagulase-negative, and penicillinase-producing strains _Streptococcus pneumoniae_ _Escherichia coli _ _Proteus mirabilis_ _Klebsiella _species _Haemophilus influenzae_ _Branhamella catarrhalis_ Most strains of enterococci (_Streptococcus faecalis_) and a few strains of staphylococci are resistant to Cephalexin. It is not active against most strains of _Enterobacter_ species, _Morganella morganii_, and _Pr. vulgaris_. It has no activity against _Pseudomonas_ or _Herellea_ species or _Acinetobacter _ _calcoaceticus_. Penicillin-resistant _Streptococcus _ _pneumoniae_ is usually cross-resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics.
