Date of revision WHAT NILCO SYRUP IS USED FOR NILCO S yrup is used for the relief of cough and nasal stuffiness, sneezing, watery eyes and bronchial (airway) congestion. HOW NILCO SYRUP WORKS Th e active ingred ients in this medicine are diphenhydramine hydrochloride and ammonium chloride. Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine which w orks by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. It has sedative effect. Ammonium chloride is used as an expectorant. It helps loosen up phlegm making it easier to cough it up. BEFORE YOU USE NILCO SYRUP _When you must not use it _ Do not take NILCO Syrup if you have an allergy to diphenhydramine, ammonium chloride, or any of the ingredients listed in formulation. Do not give NILCO Syrup to a child under 2 years of age without medical advice. Do not take NILCO Syrup if you expe riencing glaucoma (eye condition leads to loss of sight), stomach ulcer, enlarged prostate, obstruction of bladder and gastric, and failure kidney and renal function. If you are not sure whether you should start taking NILCO Syrup contact your doctor or pharmacist. _Pregnancy and lactation _ NILCO Syrup only can be taken in condition of pregnant, trying to get pregnant or think you may be pregnant only when benefit outweigh the risks. Do not take NILCO Syrup if you are breast- feeding. Small amounts of diphenhydramine are excreted in breast milk. Therefore, use is not recommended in nursing mothers.
