WHAT ACETAN HCT IS USED FOR
Acetan HCT lower high blood pressure,
which doctors call hypertension. It may be
used alone or in combination with other
medicines.
Ask your doctor if you have any questions
about

Acetan
HCT
has
been
prescribed for you. Your doctor may have
prescribed it for another purpose.
HOW ACETAN HCT WORKS
Acetan HCT contains two active
ingredients, losartan potassium and
hydrochlorothiazide.
Losartan potassium belongs to a group
of medicines called angiotensin II
receptor antagonists. It helps lower high
blood pressure by relaxing your blood
vessels.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a fluid tablet or
diuretic. It helps lower high blood
pressure by reducing the amount of fluid
in the body by making your kidneys pass
more water and salt.
BEFORE YOU USE ACETAN HCT

_When you must not use it _
Do not take Acetan HCT if you have
ever had an allergic reaction to:
•
Acetan HCT or Acetan
•
any of the ingredients listed at the end
of this leaflet.
•
any sulfonamide or sulfur medicines
(antibiotics or tablets to treat diabetes)
Symptoms of an allergic reaction may
include skin rash, hives, fever, swelling of
the face, lips, mouth, throat or tongue
which may cause difficulty breathing or
swallowing.
Do not take Acetan HCT if you are not
passing urine.
Do not take this medicine after the expiry
date
printed
on
the
pack
or
if
the
packaging
is
torn
or
shows
signs
of
tampering. If it has expired or is damaged,
return it to your pharmacist for disposal.
Do not take this medicine to treat any
other complaints unless your doctor has
instructed you to do so.

I. DESCRIPTION AND COMPOSITION
Acetan HCT Tablet 50/12.5mg
An ellipse, yellow film coated tablet with “ACE” on one side and
‘50’ on other side.
Each tablet contains Losartan Potassium…………. 50.0 mg
Hydrochlorothiazide…………...12.5 mg
Acetan HCT Tablet 100/25mg
An ellipse, light yellow colour film coated tablet with ‘ACE’ on
one side and scored on other side.
Each tablet contains Losartan Potassium…………. 100 mg
Hydrochlorothiazide…………....25 mg
II. THERAPEUTIC CLASS
ACETAN HCT(losartan potassium and hydrochlorothiazide) is the
combination of
an angiotensin II receptor (type AT
1
) antagonist and a diuretic.
III. INDICATIONS
HYPERTENSION
ACETAN HCT is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, for
patients in whom
combination therapy is appropriate.
HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS WITH LEFT VENTRICULAR HYPERTROPHY
ACETAN HCT is indicated to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with
hypertension and left
ventricular hyperthrophy, but there is evidence that this benefit does
not apply to BLACK

IV. CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Losartan-Hydrochlorothiazide
The components of ACETAN HCT have been shown to have an additive
effect on blood pressure
reduction, reducing blood pressure to a greater degree than either
component alone. This effect
is thought to be a result of the complimentary actions of both
components. Further, as a result
of its diuretic effect, hydrochlorothiazide increases plasma renin
activity, increases aldosterone
secretion, decreases serum potassium, and increases the levels of
angiotensin II. Administration
of losartan blocks all the physiologically relevant actions of
angiotensin II and through inhibition
of aldosterone could tend to attenuate the potassium loss associated
with the diuret
