What Urilyte Syrup is used for
Treatment of chronic metabolic
acidosis, particularly when caused by
renal tubular acidosis; conditions when
long-term maintenance of an alkaline
urine is desirable, in treatment of
patients with uric acid and cystine
calculi of the urinary tract and in
conjunction with uricosurics in gout
therapy to prevent uric acid
nephropathy.
How Urilyte Syrup works
Potassium citrate and sodium citrate
are absorbed and metabolized to
potassium bicarbonate and sodium
bicarbonate, thus acting as systemic
alkalizers.
Before you use Urilyte Syrup
- When you must not take it
Do not take this product if you are
allergic (hypersensitivity) to Potassium
Citrate, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid or
any other ingredients in it.
- Before you start to use it
This product should not be taken for
patient in renal impairment, severe
myocardial damage and Addison’s
disease.
- Taking other medicines
Concurrent administration of
potassium-containing drugs, potassium
sparing diuretics or other drugs that
increase potassium levels (e.g. ACE
inhibitors, Cardiac Glycosides) may
lead to toxicity.
This product will increase renal
clearance of acidic drugs such as
salicylates and barbiturates and
prolongs half-life of basic drugs.
How to take Urilyte Syrup
- How much to take
Adults and children above 12 years:
3 to 6 teaspoons (15 to 30ml) diluted
with water (200ml), 4 times daily after
food or as directed.
Children 6 to 12 years:
1 to 3 teaspoons (5 to 15ml) diluted with
water (100ml), 4 times daily after food
or as directed.
- When to take it
You should take after food or follow the
dosing regim
