WHAT TICLODINE IS USED FOR
Ticlodine is used for:
- maintenance of heart by-pass grafts
- maintenance in patients on long term
hemodialysis
- reducing risk of fatal or non-fatal
stroke in patients who have experienced
stroke warning symptoms
- patient who had a completed stroke
Because Ticlodine is associated with a risk
of low blood neutrophil counts or low white
blood cell counts, which may be life-
threatening, ticlopidine should be reserved
for patients who are intolerant to treatment
with aspirin which is used to prevent stroke.
HOW TICLODINE WORKS
Ticlodine tablet contain ticlopidine which is
used to help prevent the formation of blood
clots. Ticlopidine belongs to a group of
medicines called platelet aggregation
inhibitors. These medicines work by
reducing the ability of blood clotting cells
(platelets) to stick to each other and to blood
vessel walls. This lessens the ability of
blood clots forming in unwanted places such
as narrowed blood vessels.
BEFORE YOU USE TICLODINE
_- When you must not use it _
Do not take Ticlodine if you have
any of the following medical
conditions:
- allergic to ticlopidine or any of the
ingredients listed at the end of this
leaflet.
- any blood disorder such as low
white blood cell count, no white
blood cells or a low platelet count.
- any active bleeding problems such
a stomach ulcer or bleeding inside
the head (intracranial bleeding).
_- Before you start to use it _
Inform your doctor if you have:
- bleeding problem
- taken or taking any blood thinning
medicines such as heparin
- a surgery plan as treatment should be
stopped at least 10-14 days before surgery.
