STREPSILS Warm Lozenges

Read all of this leaflet carefully before you start taking this
medicine because it contains important
information for you.
This medicine is available without prescription. However, you still
need to take Strepsils
Warm Lozenges carefully to get the best results from it. Strepsils
Warm Lozenges will be
referred to as this medicine throughout this leaflet.

Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again

Ask your pharmacist if you need more information or advice.
•
If you get any side effects, talk to your pharmacist. This includes
any possible side effects
not listed in this leaflet. See section 4.

You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel
worse after 3 days.

1.WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
This medicine contains two antiseptic ingredients for use in throat
medications.
These are
used for the symptomatic relief of mouth and throat infections. These
ingredients
are both
mild antiseptic which kill the bacteria associated with mouth and
throat infections.
The
action of sucking the lozenge allows the active ingredients to work in
the area of the
discomfort and also helps lubricate and sooth the painful area. This
helps relieve the soreness
and discomfort of mouth and throat infections

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU TAKE THIS MEDICINE
This medicine is recommended for adults, children (over 6 years old)
and the elderly.
Children under 6 years old should not use this medicine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU:
•
Are allergic (hypersensitive) to 2,4-dichlorobenyzl alcohol,
amylmetacresol, or any of
the other ingredients shown in Section 6.

Are under 6 years old

Amylmetacresol 0.6 mg
2,4-Dichlorobenzyl alcohol 1.2mg
Excipient(s) with known effect:
•
Glucose (containing wheat starch (containing gluten), sulphites –
Sulphur Dioxide
(E220))
•
Sucrose
•
Warm Ginger spice flavour (contains Citral, Citranellol, Eugenol,
Farnesol, Geraniol,
Isoeugenol and Linalool)
•
Warm Sensation flavour (contains Cinnamal, Eugenol and Citronellol)

PHARMACEUTICAL FORM
A red to purple coloured circular lozenge with a characteristic taste
of warm
plum and ginger. Strepsils brand icon is intagliated on both sides.

CLINICAL PARTICULARS
4.1
THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS
For the symptomatic relief of mouth and throat infections.
4.2
POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
POSOLOGY
Use the lowest dose for the shortest
duration necessary to relieve symptoms.
ADULTS:
One lozenge every 2 3 hours up to a maximum of 12 lozenges in 24
hours.
CHILDREN OVER 6 YEARS OLD:
As above for adults.
ELDERLY:
There is no need for dosage reduction in the
elderly.
CHILDREN UNDER 6 YEARS OLD:
Not suitable for children under 6 years (see section 4.4).
METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
For oral administration. To be dissolved slowly in the mouth.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
4.4
SPECIAL WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
Not to be given to children under 6 years.
If symptoms persist, symptoms have not improved, or have worsened
after 3 days
consult a doctor or health care professional.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS OF THIS MEDICINE
•
Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance,
glucose-
galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not
take
this medicine.
•
This medicine contains only very low levels of gluten (from wheat
starch). It
is regarded as ‘gluten-free’ and is very unlikely to cause
problems if you have
