The name of your medicine is Paroxetine generichealth; it is also known as paroxetine. Paroxetine generichealth belongs to a group of medicines called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants. They are thought to work by their action on brain chemicals called amines which are involved in controlling mood. Depression is longer lasting or more severe than the 'low moods' that everyone has from time to time. It is thought to be caused by a chemical imbalance in parts of the brain. This imbalance affects your whole body and can cause emotional and physical symptoms. You may feel low in spirit, lose interest in usual activities, be unable to enjoy life, have poor appetite or over eat, have disturbed sleep, often waking up early, low energy and feel guilty over nothing. Paroxetine generichealth 1 PRODUCT INFORMATION PAROXETINE GENERIC HEALTH 1 NAME OF THE DRUG PAROXETINE GENERIC HEALTH Each tablet of PAROXETINE GENERIC HEALTH contains paroxetine mesilate equivalent to 20 mg paroxetine base. Structural formula of paroxetine mesilate: 2 DESCRIPTION Physical and chemical characteristics Paroxetine mesilate is a white to off-white powder, with a bitter taste and no discernible odour. It has a chemical structure unrelated to other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or to tricyclic, tetracyclic or other available antidepressant agents. It is the mesilate salt of a phenylpiperidine compound. Chemical name: (-)-_trans_-4_R_- (4'-fluorophenyl)- 3_S_- [(3',4'-methylenedioxy-phenoxy) methyl]- piperidine methane sulphonate. Melting point: 143 - 145 °C. Solubility: >1000 mg/ml in water. Molecular formula and weight are C 19 H 20 FNO 3 .CH 3 SO 3 H and 425.46 (329.37 as free base), respectively. CAS number: 217797-14-3 for paroxetine mesilate and 61869-08-7 for paroxetine free base.
