WHAT FEROFIX IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Ferofix contains the active substance iron, in the form of iron (III)
hydroxide polymaltose
complex.
Iron is an essential element required for the oxygen-carrying capacity
of haemoglobine (the red
pigment in the blood cells) and of myoglobin (the red pigment in
muscle tissue). In iron
deficiency the contents of the pigment are decreased and, if the iron
deficiency persists, iron
deficiency anemia (low level of hemoglobin and depletion of red blood
cells) will occur.
Ferofix is used in the treatment of iron deficiency
in adults and adolescents above the age of 12.

if you are allergic to the active substance or any of the other
ingredients of this medicine
(listed in section 6),

if iron is overloaded in your body (e.g. hemochromatosis or
hemosiderosis),

if you have problems in uptake of iron in your body, (e.g.
thalassemia),

if you have anemia not caused by iron deficiency (e.g. haemolytic
anemia – due to
hemolysis, with abnormal breakdown of red blood cells – or
megaloblastic anemia – a

1 tuggtablett innehåller järn(III)hydroxidpolymaltoskomplex, som
motsvarar 100 mg trevärt järn.
Hjälpämne med känd effekt
Innehåller glukos (från dextrater).

Tuggtablett.
Beige/brun-fläckiga, runda tabletter med en diameter på ungefär 12
mm.

KLINISKA UPPGIFTER
4.1
TERAPEUTISKA INDIKATIONER
Behandling av järnbrist hos vuxna och ungdomar över 12 år.
4.2
DOSERING OCH ADMINISTRERINGSSÄTT
Dosering
Dos och behandlingstid beror på graden av järnbrist.
Ungdomar (>12 år) och vuxna:
_Järnbrist: _
100–300 mg (1–3 tabletter) dagligen beroende på järnbristens
svårighetsgrad. Effekten av
behandlingen bör kontrolleras med mätning av hemoglobin och/eller
järndepå, för optimering av dos
och behandlingstid.

_Pediatrisk population_
Ferofix 100 mg tuggtabletter rekommenderas inte till barn som är 12
år eller yngre.
Administreringssätt
Det rekommenderas att detta läkemedel tas under eller omedelbart
efter en måltid för bättre
absorption. Ferofix 100 mg tuggtabletter kan tuggas eller sväljas
hela.
4.3
KONTRAINDIKATIONER
•
Överkänslighet mot den aktiva substansen eller mot något
hjälpämne som anges i avsnitt 6.1,
•
Patienter med järnöverbelastningssyndrom, t.ex. hemokromatos eller
hemosideros,
•
Patienter med sjukomar som påverkar lagring och upptag av järn,
t.ex. talassemi,
•
Patienter med anemi som inte orsakats av järnbrist, t.ex. hemolytisk
anemi eller
megaloblastanemi på grund av vitamin B12-brist.

4.4
VARNINGAR OCH FÖRSIKTIGHET
Endast patienter med järnbrist, med eller utan anemi, ska behandlas.
Orsaken till järnbristen ska
undersökas. I fall där anemin är relaterad till inflammation, till
exempel vid infektioner, ska
järnbehandling helst ges efter att patienten tillfrisknat.
Under behandling med Ferofix 100 mg tuggtabletter är det möjligt att
avföringen är
