FOOT CARE
Like for all diabe�c pa�ents it is important to check your feet
regularly and adhere
to any other advice regarding foot care given by your health care
professional.
KIDNEY FUNC�ON
Your kidneys should be checked before you start taking and whilst you
are on this
medicine.
URINE GLUCOSE
Because of how this medicine works, your urine will test posi�ve for
sugar while
you are taking this medicine.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
DIURE�CS:
Co-administra�on
of
empagliflozin
with
diure�cs
resulted
in
increased urine volume and frequency of voids, which might enhance the
poten�al for volume deple�on.
INSULIN OR INSULIN SECRETAGOGUES: Co-administra�on of empagliflozin
with insulin
or insulin-secretagogues increases the risk of hypoglycemia.
Therefore; a lower
dose of the insulin-secretagogue or insulin may be required to reduce
the risk of
hypoglycemia when used concomitantly.
POSI�VE URINE GLUCOSE TEST: Monitoring glycemic control with urine
glucose
tests is not recommended in pa�ents taking SGLT2 inhibitors, as
SGLT2 inhibitors
increase urinary glucose excre�on and will lead to posi�ve urine
glucose tests.
Use alterna�ve methods to monitor glycemic control.
INTERFERENCE WITH 1.5-ANHYDROGLUCITOL (1.5-AG) ASSAY: Monitoring
glycemic
control
with
this
assay
is
not
recommended
as
measurements
of
it
are
unreliable in assessing glycemic control in pa�ents taking SGLT2
inhibitors. Use
alterna�ve methods to monitor glycemic control.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although
not everybody
gets them.
Contact a doctor or the nearest hospital straight away if you have any
of the
following side effects:
SEVERE ALLERGIC REAC�ON, SEEN UNCOMMONLY (MAY AFFECT UP TO 1 IN 100
PEOPLE)
POSSIBLE SIGNS OF SEVERE ALLERGIC REAC�ON MAY INCLUDE:
• Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat that may lead
to difficulty
breathing or swallowing.
DIABE�C KETOACIDOSIS, SEEN RARELY (MAY AFFECT UP TO 1 IN 1,000
PEOPLE)
