DOXORUBICIN 
MAYNE IS USED FOR 
 
DOXORUBICIN MAYNE is used 
to treat certain cancers. 
 
This medicine belongs to a group 
of medicines called antineoplastic 
or cytotoxic medicines. You may 
also hear of these being called 
chemotherapy medicines. 
 
DOXORUBICIN MAYNE is 
thought to work by killing cancer 
cells, and stopping cancer cells 
from growing and multiplying. It 
contains the active ingredient 
doxorubicin hydrochloride. 
 
Your doctor may have 
prescribed DOXORUBICIN 
MAYNE for another reason.

(8S,10S)-10-[(3-Amino-2,3,6-trideoxy-alpha-L-lyxo-hexopyranosyl)-oxy]-8-
glycoloyl-7,8,9,10-tetrahydro-6,8,11-trihydroxy-1-methoxy-5,12-
naphthacenedione hydrochloride.

Doxorubicin hydrochloride is a cytotoxic anthracycline antibiotic
isolated from cultures of 
_Streptomyces peucetius var. caesius._ The chemical structure of
doxorubicin consists of a 
tetracyclic ring, with the sugar daunosamine attached by a glycosidic
linkage.  
 
Structurally, doxorubicin is related to daunomycin (daunorubicin) and
differs only in hydroxyl 
group substitution (instead of hydrogen) at the alkyl side chain,
at position ‘9’ of the ‘A’ ring.

DESCRIPTION: 
 
Doxorubicin hydrochloride
 is soluble in water; slightly soluble in methanol
; practically insoluble 
in acetone and in ethanol. 
 
Doxorubicin hydrochloride concentrated injection is a sterile, red
colored, clear solution of 
doxorubicin hydrochloride and sodium chloride in water for
injections. Hydrochloric acid is 
added as necessary to adjust the pH.
