IS USED FOR

is used
for
the
treatment
and
prevention
of
vitamin
D
deficiency.
Vitamin
D3
is
mostly made by the body when our skin
is exposed to sunlight. When there is
limited
sun
exposure,
the
natural
production
of
vitamin
D
is
decreased
and people are at a high risk of vitamin
D
deficiency.
Sun
exposure
can
be
limited
by
being
indoors
during
the
daytime
or
by
wearing
clothing
that
covers most of the body. The use of
sunscreen will also block exposure to
sunlight.
The risk of vitamin D3 deficiency is also
increased by having dark skin and by
certain conditions such as malabsorptive
gastrointestinal disease or obesity.

treatment

osteoporosis. Vitamin D helps improve
calcium absorption, which is important
for healthy bones.
HOW _ BLACKMORES VITAMIN D3 1000IU _
WORKS
Vitamin
D3
is
also
known
as
cholecalciferol
(inactive
form),
or
calcitriol when it has been converted to
the active form in the body. It is a fat-
soluble
vitamin
that
regulates
the
concentration of calcium as it circulates
in the bloodstream. Vitamin D enhances
the
absorption
of
calcium
and
phosphorus
from
the
small
intestine,
helps mobilise calcium and phosphorus
from the bones and acts on the kidney to
assist your body to retain calcium.

60,000 IU/day for long periods can cause
hypercalcaemia with muscle weakness, apathy,
headache, anorexia, nausea and vomiting, bone pain,
ectopic calcification, proteinuria, hypertension and
cardiac arrhythmias. An overdose should be treated
symptomatically. Vitamin D supplementation should
be discontinued and a low-calcium diet commenced.
Calcium levels, ECG and renal function should be
checked. Supportive management under expert
medical supervision is required
