Therapeutic indications:

The Swan-Ganz catheter allows clinicians in a critical care environment to determine haemodynamic pressures and cardiac output when used with a compatible cardiac output computer. It is a balloon tipped catheter that is inserted in a a large vein and floated into the pulmonary artery. The catheter also provides temporary ventricular, atrial, or A-V sequential pacing and is made from medical grade PVC designed to soften in vivo. The Swan-Ganz thermodilution A-V Paceport catheter is intended for use in patients who require haemodynamic monitoring when temporary transvenous pacing is anticipated. It provides simultaneous right atrial, right ventricular, and pulmonary artery or wedge pressure monitoring, cardiac output determination, and allows infusion of fluids. The catheter is also indicated for standby temporary ventricular, atrial, or A-V sequential pacing using the Model D98100 Chandler Transluminal V-pacing probe.
