                                RHEUMACIN – PATIENT INFORMATION
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
RHEUMACIN?
Take Rheumacin with food, milk, or an antacid to lessen stomach upset. Do not break, crush, or chew
the sustained-release formulations of Rheumacin (e.g., Rheumacin SR). Swallow them whole. Contact
your doctor if you experience blood in vomit or bloody, black, or tarry stools. These symptoms could
indicate damage to the stomach or intestines, which could be dangerous. Many over-the-counter cough,
cold, allergy, and pain medicines contain aspirin or other medicines similar to Rheumacin (such as
ibuprofen, ketoprofen, and others). Before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicine, talk to
your doctor and pharmacist. Avoid alcohol or use it with moderation. If you drink more than three
alcoholic beverages a day, Rheumacin may increase the risk of dangerous stomach bleeding. Talk to
your doctor before taking Rheumacin if you drink more than 3
alcoholic beverages a day.
WHAT IS RHEUMACIN?
Rheumacin is in a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Rheumacin
works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Rheumacin is used to
reduce   the   pain,   inflammation,   and   stiffness   caused   by   many   conditions,   such   as   osteoarthritis,
rheumatoid arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, and bursitis. Rheumacin may also be used
for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
WHAT SHOULD I DISCUSS WITH MY HEALTHCARE PROVIDER BEFORE TAKING
RHEUMACIN?
Before

taking

Rheumacin,

tell

your

doctor

if

you
have an allergy to aspirin or any other NSAIDs, have an ulcer or bleeding in the stomach, drink more
than three alcoholic  beverages  a day, have  liver  or

Summary of Product characteristics

                                RHEUMACIN - MEDICATION GUIDE
GENERAL INFORMATION
Rheumacin is used to relieve pain, swelling, and
joint stiffness caused by arthritis, gout, bursitis, and
tendonitis. It is also used to relieve pain from various other
conditions. Rheumacin is known as a
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking
your body's production of certain
natural substances that cause inflammation. This effect helps to decrease swelling
and pain.
If you are treating a chronic condition such as arthritis, ask
your doctor about non-drug treatments
and/or using other medications to treat your
pain. See also Warning section.
Rheumacin may also be used to relieve pain caused by inflammation
of the pouch surrounding the heart
and other conditions, as prescribed by your doctor.
HOW TO USE RHEUMACIN
Read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist before you
start using Rheumacin and each
time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your
doctor or pharmacist.
Take Rheumacin by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually 2 to
3 times a day with a full glass of
water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters). Do not lie down for
at least 10 minutes after taking Rheumacin. If
stomach upset occurs while taking Rheumacin, take it with food,
milk, or an antacid.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to
treatment. In children, the dosage is
also based on weight. To reduce your risk of stomach bleeding
and other side effects, take Rheumacin
at the lowest effective dose for
the shortest possible time. Do not increase your dose or
use Rheumacin
more often or for longer than prescribed. For ongoing
conditions such as arthritis, continue taking
Rheumacin as directed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your
doctor or pharmacist.
In certain conditions (such as arthritis), it may take up to 4
weeks when Rheumacin is taken regularly
before you notice
