PHARMACODYNAMICS
Antamac tablet is an antacid tablet with slow neutralising action and
mild laxative action.
PHARMACOKINETICS
Magnesium trisilicate is a hydrated magnesium silicate. It is an
antacid with general properties similar
to those of magnesium hydroxide. When given orally it reacts more
slowly with hydrochloric acid in
the stomach than magnesium hydroxide. Magnesium trisilicate is often
given with aluminium-
containing antacids such as aluminium hydroxide, which counteract its
laxative effect. Aluminium
hydroxide, given orally, slowly reacts with the hydrochloric acid in
the stomach to form soluble
aluminium chloride, some of which is absorbed. The presence of food or
other factors that decrease
gastric emptying prolongs the availability of aluminium hydroxide to
react and may increase the amount
of aluminium chloride formed. Simeticone is a mixture of liquid
dimeticones containing finely divided
silicon dioxide to enhance the defoaming properties of the silicone.
It lowers surface tension and when
given by mouth causes bubbles of gas in the gastrointestinal tract to
coalesce, thus aiding their
dispersion.
INDICATIONS
Antamac is used in the symptomatic relief of acid indigestion,
dyspepsia, heartburn, gastric pain and
flatulence.
