DESCRIPTION
White Colour Powder
PHARMACODYNAMIC
Maduramicin is considerably more potent as a coccidiostat than
the other polyether ionophores that are used as coccidiostatic
feed
additives.
These
compounds
are
branchchained,
polyoxygenated carboxylic acids that act as mobile carriers of
cations by rendering cations lipid-soluble, thereby enabling them
to pass across membranes. This process disrupts cationic cross-
membrane gradients and is responsible for their anticoccidial
activity.
As
other
polyether
ionophores,
maduramicin
ammonium
possesses moderate activity against many gram-positive bacteria,
but with no activity against gram-negative organisms.
PHARMACOKINETIC
Maduramicin ammonium is absorbed (to an unknown extent)
and excreted rapidly in chicken. Under continuous administration
a distribution/metabolism steady state is observed after three
days in the excreta but after six days in plasma.
INDICATION
As an aid in the prevention of coccidiosis in broiler chickens
caused by _ Eimeria tenella, E. (Eimeria) acervulina, E. (Eimeria) _
_maxima, E. (Eimeria) necatrix, E. (Eimeria) mitis, and E. (Eimeria) _
_brunetti._
ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION
Oral
RECOMMENDED DOSE
5 mg/kg (milligrams per kilogram) (0.0005%) of maduramicin
ammonium
in
the
complete
feed.
Feed
this
medicated
feed
continuously as the sole ration from day one to five days prior to
slaughter.
CONTRAINDICATION
