LIFE LINCO-SPECTIN 4.4% PREMIX 1 FOR ANIMAL USE ONLY PRODUCT NAME : LIFE LINCO-SPEC PREMIX NAME AND STRENGTH OF ACTIVE SUBSTANCE(S) Each g contains Lincomycin 22 mg (equivalent to Lincomycin Hydrochloride Monohydrate 24.95 mg) and Spectinomycin 22 mg (equivalent to Spectinomycin Sulfate Tetrahydrate 33.26 mg). PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A white or off-white powder for use in animal feed. TARGET SPECIES Pigs. PHARMACODYNAMICS Lincomycin is a lincosamide antibiotic and is produced by _Streptococcus lincolnensis_. The mode of action of lincomycin is inhibition of protein synthesis at the ribosomal 50S sub-unit level. Lincomycin is largely used in pigs to control dysentery and mycoplasma infections. Spectinomycin is an aminocyclitol antibiotic that is produced by _Streptomyces spectabilis_. The mode of action of spectinomycin is inhibition of protein synthesis via a 30S ribosomal target. It is a broad- spectrum drug with activity against gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria, but little anaerobic activity. It has good activity against Mycoplasma. Lincomycin and spectinomycin combination have been shown to be synergistic in vitro against mycoplasma. PHARMACOKINETICS Lincomycin is rapidly but incompletely absorbed when administered orally to animals. Lincomycin is well distributed in the body, with highest tissue concentration in the liver and kidneys, while very low levels are obtained in the CSF. Lincomycin can pass unchanged from the body via the bile and feces or urine or can be metabolized to the glucuronide, N-demthyl lincomycin, or licomycin sulfoxide forms by the liver. Spectinomycin has a small volume of distribution. It is poorly absorbed following oral administration. Most of an oral dose is eliminated in the feces. Oral administration has been used for a local effect for treatment of diarrhea.
