DESCRIPTION: Dimetridazole 40%w/w. A cream coloured to very pale
yellow soluble powder.
MODE OF ACTION: Dimetridazole is a non-antibiotic antimicrobial
agent highly effective against many disease-causing protozoa and
bacteria in pigs and poultry.
INDICATIONS: Treatment of dysentery and post weaning scours in
pigs and prevention of blackhead in turkeys, chicken and game bird
and canker in pigeons.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Do not feed to laying birds. Do not mix with
another antiblackhead pproduct.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
PIGS: For treatment of swine dysentery and post-weaning scours.
Dimetrasol
should be added at the rate of 30g (2 tablespoonful) to each 45litres
of
drinking water(660mg/litre) or approx. 800mg/50g liveweight. This
water
should be made the only source of drinking water for the pigs for a
minimum
of 3 to a maximum of 7 days. Water medicated with Dimetrasol at this
level
may be safely given to pigs of all classes including adult breeding
stock.
Continuous preventative medication with Dimetramix at 900g/tonne of
feed
should be started as soon as possible after treatment with Dimetrasol
has
commenced.
NOTE: Dimetrasol is not recommended for the treatment of primary E
coli or
salmonella infections. In cases of doubt consult a veterinary surgeon.
TURKEYS, CHICKENS & GAME BIRDS:
TREATMENT OF BLACKHEAD: Dimetrasol should be added to the
drinking water at a rate of 30g (2 tablespoonful) to 45litres
(660mg/litre) approx. 20mg/kg liveweight for 12 days as soon as
symptoms appear and all birds in the flock should be treated
whether or not they are visibly affected. If used in a rapidly
spreading out-break, or when there is no preventative medication in
the feed. Dimetrasol should be given at a higher level of 60g (4
tablespoonful) per 45litres (1320mg/litre) approx. 40mg/kg
liveweight for the first 3 to 5 days of treatment.
