How Condropil works 3. Before you take Condropil 4. How to use Condropil 5. While you are using Condropil 6. Side effects 7. Storage and disposal 8. Product description 9. Manufacturer & product registration holder 10. Date of revision 1. WHAT CONDROPIL IS USED FOR Condropil is used to relieve joint problems related to osteoarthritis. 2. HOW CONDROPIL WORKS Condropil contains glucosamine which forms a key part of cartilage (the cushioning substance between bones in the joints) while chondroitin acts by preventing damage or breakdown of cartilage. Glucosamine and chondroitin act to increase synovial fluid production, thereby providing lubricant activity for proper joint function. 3. BEFORE YOU USE CONDROPIL _-When you must not use it_ If you are allergic to glucosamine or chondroitin or any of the ingredients in the product. If you are allergic to seafood. Avoid use during the first 3 months of pregnancy. _-Before you start to use it_ Read the instruction and this leaflet carefully to understand how this medication should be taken. Avoid use in children. Tell your doctor or a pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. if you have allergies to seafood, medicines or other substances. CONDROPIL ® CAPSULE NAME AND STRENGTH OF ACTIVE SUBSTANCE(S) Each capsule contains glucosamine sulphate sodium chloride 314 mg equivalent 250 mg (derived from seafood) glucosamine sulphate and chondroitin sulphate 200 mg (derived from fish) PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A hard gelatin fish origin capsule, size 0, snap-fit dark blue-white opaque capsule with printed “Condropil” at both sides. PHARMACODYNAMICS Glucosamine is a natural substance found in chitin, mucoproteins, and mucopolysaccharides. It is involved in the manufacture of glycosaminoglycan, which forms cartilage tissue in the body; glucosamine is also present in tendons and ligaments. Glucosamine must be synthesised by the body but the ability to do this declines with age. Glucosamine and its salts have therefore been advocated in the treatment of rheumatic disorders including osteoarthritis. Glucosamine also acts to improve the viscosity of synovial fluid by increasing synovial fluid production, thereby providing lubricant activity. The primary mechanism of action of CS is increased joint glycosaminologlycan concentration and a subsequent enhancement of synovial fluid viscosity. Improvement in joint structure and function are due to (1) increased endogenous synthesis of hyaluronic acid and sulfated glycosamininoglycans from chondroitin sulphate; and (2) reduced break down of joint glycosaminoglycans subsequent to decreased collagenolytic activity and inhibition of enzymes, such as phospholipase A2 and N-acetylglucosaminidase, which are capable of degrading existing joint glycosaminoglycans Glucosamine and chondroitin work synergistically to stimulate the anabolic metabolism of osteo- cartilagineous by stimulating the biosynthesis of the mucopolysaccharides (which are the essential components of the cartilage ground substances). PHARMACOKINETICS _Absorption_ After oral administration, bioavailability is low due to first-pass hepatic metabolism~26%. The gastrointestinal absorption is close to 90%.
