BRUFEN ® 600 Ibuprofen 600mg Analgesic & Anti-inflammatory Agent Ibuprofen is a member of the propionic acid group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Brufen ® 600 is a racemic mixture of [+]S- and [-]R-enantiomers. Brufen ® 600 has shown anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activity in both animal and human studies. These properties provide symptomatic relief of inflammation and painful. It is a colorless crystalline stable solid, with a melting point of 75° to 77°C. It is relatively insoluble in water but readily soluble in most organic solvents. Ibuprofen has a pKa of 4.43±0.03 and an n-octanol/water partition coefficient of 11.7 at pH 7.4. The chemical name for Ibuprofen is (±)-2-(4-isobutylphenyl) propionic acid. The molecular weight of Ibuprofen is 206.28 and its molecular formula is C 13 H 18 O 2 . INDICATIONS Brufen ® 600 is indicated for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and allied conditions, non-articular rheumatism and soft tissue injuries. Brufen ® 600 is also indicated for its analgesic effect in the relief of mild to moderate pain such as dysmenorrhoea, dental pain, post-operative pain and in the relief of migraine headache. Its antipyretic activity is effective in reducing fever. DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION ADULTS The recommended initial dosage is 1200mg – 1800mg daily in divided doses. Some patients can be maintained on 600 – 1200mg daily. The total daily dose of Brufen ® 600 should not exceed 2400mg. CHILDREN The recommended dose of Brufen ® 600 is 20mg/kg of body weight daily in divided doses, but in juvenile rheumatoid arthritis the dosage may be increased to 40mg/kg body weight daily in divided doses, in severe cases.
