DESCRIPTION

equivalent to Xylazine base

MODE OF ACTION
Xylazine is a sedative with variable analgesic and muscle relaxant
properties
depending on the species and temperament of the animal injected and
also on the
dosage and route of injection employed. The major affect is on
presynaptic
alpha2-
adrenergic receptors in the central nervous system by causing
inhibition of the
release of noradrenolin from the nerve endings. It also produces
muscle relaxation
by inhibition of the central intraneuronal transmission of nerve
impulses.
Xylazine can be used on its own or in combination with other
sedatives, analgesics
and anaesthetics to produce the required state from heavy sedation to
full surgical
anesthesia. The onset of sedation occurs within 10 minutes after
intramuscular
injection and lasts up to 45 minutes or more. The onset of effect
occurs within
1-3 minutes after intravenous injection.
INDICATIONS
For the sedation, analgesia and muscle relaxation of horses.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
AVOID CONCOMITANT USE WITH TRANQUILISERS.
