WHAT BETAMOX IS USED FOR
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to
treat infections in different parts of the
body caused by bacteria. These may be
infections
of
the
chest
(pneumonia),
tonsils (tonsillitis), sinuses (sinusitis),
urinary and genital tract, skin and soft
tissues.
Your
doctor
may
have
prescribed
BETAMOX for another reason. Ask
your doctor if you have any questions
about
why
BETAMOX
has
been
prescribed for you.
HOW BETAMOX WORKS
Amoxycillin
is
an
antibiotic
that
belongs to a group of medicines called
penicillins. These antibiotics work by
killing
the
bacteria
that
are
causing
your infection.
BEFORE YOU USE BETAMOX
-
_When you must not take it_
Do not take BETAMOX if you have
an allergy to:
•
amoxycillin,
•
other penicillins or cephalosporins
•
any of the ingredients listed at the
end of this leaflet.
Some of the symptoms of an allergic
reaction
may
include
skin
rash,
itchiness, shortness of breath, swelling
of the face, lips or tongue.
Do not use BETAMOX if:
1.
The packaging is torn or shows signs
of tampering.
2.
Do
not
use
BETAMOX
after
the
expiry date printed on the bottle or
box has passed.
3.
If
you
are
not
sure
whether
you
should
start
taking
BETAMOX
contact your doctor or pharmacist

_Before you start to use it_
Tell your doctor if you have had an
allergic reaction to any antibiotics in
the past.
Tell
your
doctor
if
you
have
any
allergies to any other medicines or any
other
substances,
such
as
foods,
preservatives or dyes.
Tell your doctor if you have or have
ever had any other health problems /
medical conditions, including:

liver problems
•
kidney problems
•
bleeding disorder

Summary of Product characteristics

                                supportive.
Amoxycillin
may
be
removed
from
circulation
by
haemodialysis.
Serious hypersensitivity reactions have been reported in patients on
penicillin therapy. Serious
anaphylactic reactions require immediate emergency treatment with
parenteral epinephrine,
oxygen,
intravenous
corticosteroids
or
air
management(including
intubation).
_to the above measures, oral doses of the following may be used:_
If diarrhoea occurs, administration of antiperistaltic antidiarrhoeals
(e.g. opioids, diphenoxylate
and atropine combination, loperamide, paregoric) is not recommended
since they may delay the
removal of toxins from the colon, thereby prolonging and/ or worsening
the condition.
BETAMOX 250MG TABLET: A capsule shape, scored, marked 'USP250' yellow
tablet.
Each tablet contains Amoxycillin Trihydrate equivallent to Amoxycillin
250mg.
Amoxycillin is an aminopenicillin, which has activity against
penicillin-sensitive gram-positive
bacteria, as well as _Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella
sp. Shigella sp. and Haemophilus _
However, many
species are
resistant to this penicillin because of beta- lactamase production by
these organisms Amoxycillin
can be administered orally for the following infections caused by
susceptible bacterial organisms:
• Bronchitis
• Biliary Tract Infections
• Uncomplicated Endocervical and Urethral Gonorrhoea (caused by
susceptible strains of _Neisseria gonorrhoea_)
• Acute Otitis Media
• Mouth Infections
• Pharyngitis
• Pneumonia
• Sinusitis
• Urinary Tract Infections
• Gastro-enteritis (including _E. Coli_ enteritis and _Salmonella_
enteritis)
• Lyme Disease(early stages monotherapy and later stages in
combination with
probenecid)
• Typhoid Fever
Amoxycillin is a possible alternative to erythromycin for chlamydial
infections in pregnant
women. Amoxycillin is also indicated as prophylaxis for spleen
disorders (pneumococcal
infection) and bacterial endocarditis and adjunct for _Helicobacter
pylori_ -associated peptic ulcer.
