Glucose monohydrate; SODIUM CHLORIDE (SALT)
1000ml mL
B.BRAUN MEDICAL INDUSTRIES SDN BHD
COMPOSITION Each 100 ml contains: Sodium Chloride 0.30 g Glucose Monohydrate for Parenteral Use 3.63 g Water for Injections to 100 ml Electrolytes: mmol/l (mEq/l) Na + 51 Cl - 51 Caloric value: 553 kJ/l 132 kcal/l Osmolarity: 286 mOsm/l CHARACTERISTICS B. BRAUN 0.3% SODIUM CHLORIDE AND 3.3% GLUCOSE INTRAVENOUS INFUSION represents an isotonic I.V. solution. The outstanding feature of this solution is the markedly low electrolyte con- tent which makes it particularly suitable for use in case of hypertonic dehydration. MECHANISMS OF ACTION Glucose is absorbed from the gastrointesti- nal tract, and oxidised as a souree of energy, or stored in the liver as glyeogen. It is the only energy substrate which is directly, instantly and universally utilized by the body. Glucose is vital for the myocardium, brain and nerves. Sodium Chloride is the principal salt involved in maintaining the osmotic tension of the blood and tissue. Changes in sodium and chloride levels change this osmotic tension and hence influenee the movement of fluids and diffusion of salts in cellular tissue. INDICATIONS Hypertonic (especially hypernatremic) dehydration Supply of free water, Caloric supply, Vehicle solution for supplementary medication. DOSAGE According to individual requirements approxi- mately 1000 ml/day Drop rate: up to 120-180 drops/min correspond- ing to 360-540 ml/h ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION I.V. CONTRAINDICATIONS Hyperhydration, oedema Hypotonic dehydration Cardiac insufficiency Diabetes mellitus. PRECAUTIONS Use with caution in patients with hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Blood glucose, serum elec- trolytes and water balance should be monitored regularly. The compatibility of any additives to this solution should be checked before use. SIDE EFFECTS Hyperglycaemia and glucosuria may occur if glucose tolerance is impaired. These can be avoided by reducing the dosage and infusion rate or by administering insulin. SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT FOR OVERDOSAGE If hyperglycaemia or glucosuria occur, the dosage and infusion rate should be Read the complete document
