AVSL Multi Brown Snake Antivenom is used to treat envenomation of dogs and cats by any species of brown Snake (Pseudonaja spp.), including the Eastern Brown Snake (P. textilis), Western Brown Snake or Gwardar (P. nuchalis), the Ringed Brown Snake (P. modesta) and the Dugite (P. affinis affinis). Net Contents: 10 mL Vial 5 mL Vial Directions for Use: Restraints: Contraindications: Precautions: Side Effects: In cases of serum reactions in cats an appropriate dose of adrenaline (0.1mL of 1:1000) should be given intravenously RLP APPROVED As a guide, a dose of >2000 units (10mL) of AVSL Multi Brown Snake antivenom should be taken as that dose required to effectively counter one average brown snake bite in an animal. However the volume of venom expressed when a snake bites an animal will vary with the geographical location, size of the snake and other biological conditions. Because of this large variation in cases of envenomation presented to the clinician, an identical response to a similar dose rate in each patient cannot be expected. For severely affected animals multiple doses may be required initially. Where a patient has shown a response to antivenom but has subsequently deteriorated in clinical condition the administration of further vials of antivenom should be considered. The antivenom should be gently warmed to room temperature, diluted up to 1 in 10 in 0.9% saline or Hartmann’s solution and administered SLOWLY over 20-30 minutes by the intravenous route in both dogs and cats.
